New Blog!

Howdy folks!  Welcome to my new blog.  I don't have a whole lot to say these days since I'm usually holed up in my studio or raising kiddos, but I do love the idea of sharing a bit about my life and my process, so that customers can really know who they are supporting with every purchase.  Getting to know the artist, is half the fun of buying handmade!

My name is Annie, and I live in a little house, in a little town, right at the foot of the rocky mountains with my husband, our two children, and a big doofus of a dog. I have a great little private studio where I spend most of my day, taking breaks to build fairy houses, make messes, break up brawls, and cook meals with the kids.

I grew up in the mountains and the woods, in family of eccentric artists. I love being outside, peeking at critters, and going for long boring introspective walks by myself. I believe in doing the right thing, always.  Ethics are of the utmost importance to me.  That's why you'll always see organic fabrics printed without exploiting the earth or its people, in my designs.

I got started in this business shortly after my son was born. He has a rare genetic disability called Angelman Syndrome that will require lifelong 24/7 care, so when I found that out, I was determined to find a way to be self employed.  Only then could I be there for him through the endless hospital visits and therapy appointments he would always need. I've worked long but self selected hours ever since, trying to build a sustainable business for my family.

I've been an artist since I was old enough to hold a crayon, but textiles have always held a special place in my heart, a place I was  previously afraid to go.  My formal background as far as school is concerned is exclusively in illustration. You see, the truth is, I'm not very coordinated.  No it's true.  Cutting patterns and running a sewing machine did not come naturally to me at all.  I'm 100% self taught when it comes to sewing, and it took hundreds and hundreds of hours of practice for me to get to where I felt like anything I put out was worth showing to another soul.  I don't know a single sewing term, I'm just an intuitive learner who looked at my own clothes, and figured it out from there with endless trial and error.  I used my background in fine art to suss out the fabrics and designs, and here I am today, happily sewing little unique pieces for your little one.  I feel that my work is constantly evolving and improving.  I strive to do that at least!  I don't put anything out that I wouldn't put on my own kiddo.  I focus on comfort, and ease of wear. I love what I do, and I hope you like it too!
